Dreamscape's Binky Boy "Binks"

weight as of 4/20/06 - 63 lbs
Binks came to live in our home in
June 2005. He was a couple of weeks shy of being a year old. The
background I was given on Binks was the family that had him always wanted a
German Shepherd, but they were Doberman breeders and they now needed to
down size and wanted to sale Binks. Binks was raised with another male and
female German Shepherd along with numerous Dobermans. I was told he was a
real sweetheart. Prior to the owner placing Binks for sale, he bred with
their female German Shepherd on "accident". How a regular breeder with
that many dogs can have another dog breed with a female on accident is beyond
me. Anyway he fathered 6 puppies in that litter. As I stated on my
home page I am a huge fan of the German Shepherd and have extreme respect for
the breed. After contacting his previous owner several times to answer
numerous questions I had. I knew he needed to come to a loving home where
he could excel and get the attention he deserved. Binks was to fly from
Indiana to us in California. I was very concerned about him flying for his
age, but I was assured by his original owner he would be fine. When he
missed the first flight he was supposed to get on, I was very worried how much
stress it had caused him to go to the airport, then back home, and then back to
the airport to get on the next flight. Well when he finally arrived.
He was so scared trying to hide at the back of his crate. He had his ears
down and was very cautious.
I took him home right away and we tried to
make him feel as comfortable as possible. We gave him his own space away
from the girls so he could get used to us and his new home. His eyes were
so blood shot red. I took him to the vet the next day and was told by my
vet that is was from the stress, because of flying at his age. Binks had a
heavy, longer coat than my females. But he didn't have the long hair of a
long hair German Shepherd. I was a bit confused as to why his hair was so
different. In observing Binks I could tell he was raised by a firm,
demanding family. When ever my husband would call out to the girls Binks
would find a place to hide. But if I were to call out to the girls he
wouldn't run and hide but watch from a distance.
It really saddens me that such a beautiful
dog was raised in such a wrong manor, but I am glad and happy to say he has
learned to trust us and now when we call out to the group they all come with
excitement. He still is a little shy of strangers but as long as we are with
him, he feels comfortable. Binks has since shed that burley coat he had
and has become a beautiful sweet dog. He still has his shy moments, but I
understand him better and he understands and trusts us more. He fathered
Tasha's litter she whelped in October and he now has fathered Kita's litter she
whelped in January. He also has champions in his pedigree and you can see
why when you look at him. He has proven to be a wonderful loving dog and
father. I am very glad he came to live with us and we have shown him a
life of excitement and given him the love he needed.
